Post
burn contracture is the tightening of the skin after second or third degree
burns. When skin gets burnt, the surrounding skin begins to pull together in an
attempt to heal the burns area, resulting in a contracture or scar formation. It
needs to be treated as soon as possible because the thick scar can result in restriction
of movement around the injured area. Post Burn Contracture may improve
partially with the passage of time and physiotherapy and splinting. Steroid
injections can reduce itching, redness and burning sensation in the scar tissue
and may even reduce the size of the Burn Scar.
